The Commonwealth: Maker Series featuring Lockeland Leatherworks
You spoke - we listened.
In an effort to offer expanded and better experiences for you to connect with, we decided to create a new style of event. A gathering with more focus and intention. One where members could get a hands on tactile experience with a brand and leave with something in their hands that they could use. In that, we partnered with Lockeland Leatherworks for our first Commonwealth Maker Series. It was our esteemed host our first Commonwealth Maker Series with Lockeland Leatherworks. We were also happy to have Belle Meade Bourbon along for the ride to provide a whiskey tasting and grateful to 1767 Designs for the generous use of their space.
What is the Maker Series, you ask? It will be a series of events where attendees will be able to create products with local makers for their personal use. At this particular event, each attendee was able to make their own full grain leather belt customized with their choice of color (black or brown) and buckle. During the experience, participants were guided through the process of creating the belt; from proper measuring and sizing, cutting, hand-sewing the loop, varnishing, and finishing. The belts were made of genuine calf skin and participants left with a wearable piece that they will have the rest of their lives.
We have known the owner of Lockeland Leatherworks, Joey, for a few years and we were beyond excited to bring this to life for our community. Joey’s commitment to excellence and eye for detail are unrivaled and it shows in his work. Joey hand crafts his leather goods in his studio in Old Hickory, TN with a great deal of intentionality. We could not have asked for a better partner for the inaugural Maker Series gathering. Check out his site to learn more about him and what he does.
